A Modesto Teen’s Tragic Death has led to the sentencing of the man responsible for the fatal shooting that occurred after the teen made a wrong turn.
The tragic incident happened on December 26, 2020, when 14-year-old Maria Juarez mistakenly drove into a dead-end street in a neighborhood run by the Valley Boyz Crip street gang.
Juarez was accompanied by three other passengers: an 18-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old girl. As Juarez turned the car around, gunfire erupted.
Damon Morrison Jr., along with two others, fired over 20 rounds at the car, believing the occupants were members of a rival gang. In a desperate attempt to flee, Juarez crashed into a light pole.
The shooting resulted in the heartbreaking death of Juarez, who was struck twice by the bullets.
Although the 16-year-old boy and the 18-year-old woman were also injured, they survived. Thankfully, the 11-year-old girl was unharmed.
After a month-long investigation, Morrison Jr., along with Angelo Keo and a 16-year-old boy, were apprehended.
Morrison later admitted to the killing and has been sentenced to life in prison. Keo, on the other hand, faced reduced charges as part of a plea deal, and he will serve 17 years for his involvement in the crime.

The prosecution stated that law enforcement efforts have significantly curbed the criminal activities of this gang, and the conviction of these individuals marks a victory in the fight against gang violence in the Modesto area.
However, the 16-year-old shooter’s future remains uncertain as the courts decide whether he will be tried as an adult or juvenile.
