Here are Social Security’s average payments updated: SSI, SSDI, retirement, survivors & spousal benefits

Old-Age and Survivors Insurance pays out an average of $1,837.79 a month. The average amount of money that people get in retirement is about $1,873.08. Now it’s time to look at the average checks that retired workers get.

In fact, the amount they pay each month has gone up by about $1. Pay for retired workers is $1,920 a month as of September 2024. Just so you know, the 2025 COLA increase is not included in any of these direct deposits or checks.

People whose spouses or children have retired can also get benefits. Spouses of retired workers get about $909.23 a month from Social Security, and children of retired workers get about $892.72 a month. How much for survivors:

  • children: $1,103.72
  • widowed mothers and fathers: $1,287.79
  • nondisabled widow(er)s: 1,785.33
  • disabled widow(er)s
  • parents of deceased workers: $1,622.14

Social Security Disability Insurance average payments

It is possible for Social Security Disability Insurance to send up to $3,822 in payments. The average amount of money that workers, spouses, and children get from SSDI is $1,402.44. People who work and have a disability get paid an average of $1,539.84 a month.

The average pay for a worker’s disabled spouse is $421.49. Most of the time, their kids get $492.46. But what about people who get Supplemental Security Income?

People who get SSI can get an average of $697.27. If you are younger than 18, the estimated amount you will pay each month is $813.01. People between the ages of 18 and 64 who get SSI get about $743.77 a month on average. The average checks for people 65 and older are the smallest.

In general, they get around $574.99. The 2025 COLA is not part of any of these payments. It starts on December 31 for people on SSI and on January 3 for people on Social Security.
