More than $2.2 million in grants are approved for Columbia County

State grants totaling more than $2.2 million have been approved for Columbia County communities for important infrastructure and safety improvements.

“I am pleased to announce these critical grants that will benefit our local communities.

Columbia County is home to hardworking families who deserve safe public spaces and well-maintained infrastructure to support a thriving community,” stated State Rep. Robert Leadbeter. “These investments help us build a brighter future for our families, support the local economy, and preserve the vitality of Columbia County.”

The grant awards are as follows:

Benton Borough has allocated $80,316 to purchase a police vehicle and equipment. Benton Municipal Water and Sewer Authority – $68,310 to buy a vehicle. Briar Creek Township: $127,767 to buy a maintenance vehicle.

Briar Creek Township has allocated $27,476 to upgrade existing police department equipment. Catawissa Borough has allocated $84,870 to install security cameras throughout the borough.

Catawissa Borough Municipal Authority paid $13,186 to purchase a generator. Catawissa Township – $220,028 to buy a tractor, mower, and snowplow. Mifflin Township has allocated $117,670 to replace a deteriorated local bridge.

Four school districts in Columbia County will receive funding, including:

Columbia Montour Area Vocational Technical School – $700,000 for ADA compliance and health and safety upgrades, roof replacement, and installation of a new HVAC system and generator.

Berwick Area School District has allocated $581,250 for a roof replacement project at Berwick Middle School.

Benton Area School District – $100,000 for safety upgrades at LR Appleman Elementary School. Bloomsburg Area School District has allocated $100,000 for an HVAC project at W.W. Evans Elementary School.
