A North Carolina man thought it was his lucky day when he discovered $20 on the ground. Then he used it to purchase a lottery ticket

The North Carolina man who found a $20 bill on the ground and used it to buy a winning lottery ticket had a huge change in his life.

On Tuesday night, Jerry Hicks found $20 on the ground in a parking lot. He picked it up and used it to buy an Extreme Cash scratch-off, according to WYFF in North Carolina.

There was $20 in the parking lot outside the Speedway that I found. That’s what I used to get the ticket. “I bought that ticket instead because they didn’t have the one I was looking for,” Hicks told the officials.

Hicks could take the win as a single $600,000 payment or as a $50,000 payment every year for 20 years. After state and federal taxes were taken out, Hicks was $429,007 richer because he chose the lump sum.

He told the police, “We’re going to Golden Corral right away and eat everything they have,” with a smile.

For 56 years, Hicks has been a great carpenter. He plans to retire and help his kids with the money he won.
