You hurt my entire family’: Butler County grandma imprisoned for shooting baby

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC)-  The grandmother who shot her 6-month-old granddaughter last year will go to prison for nine to twelve years.

Mia Harris admitted to felony assault charges last month and was given her sentence Tuesday.

Myra Harris is now one year and a half old. She is grandchildren of Mia Harris.

After her daughter Myra was shot, Destiny, her mother, took the stand and said that her daughter would have special needs for the rest of her life.

Dream is Harris’s daughter-in-law. She says Myra has had three surgeries and will have a fourth in 2025.

Police say Harris got into a fist fight with family members at their home in Liberty Township last December.

She took out a gun and shot through the door to a bedroom several times.

After that, she smashed through the door and shot her granddaughter in the head.

His lawyers say it was just a mental break in court.

“She lost her cool. Call it a breakdown or a mental breakdown; she just lost it.” I think that the talks we had should be taken into account by the court, along with the mental aspects and the factors.

Destiny spoke directly to Harris.

Three doctors checked out Harris, and while it’s true that her mental health was a concern, two of them said she didn’t have a severe mental health condition.
