A man killed his girlfriend, placed her body on the couch, and ‘watched television’ before bed: Police

An American man, 49 years old, is accused of killing his girlfriend by slitting her wrists and strangling her. He then allegedly left her bloody body on their couch while he finished watching TV before going to sleep.

Police said that Daniel Allen Aldrich was arrested last week and charged with one felony count of murder and one felony enhancement for the personal use of a weapon in the death of Julie Anne Sanetra, 38.

Police say that Aldrich and Sanetra fought at their home in the 1900 block of Maple Avenue on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, after drinking all night. This was according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Eventually, the fight got physical, and prosecutors say Aldrich strangled Sanetra and then cut her wrists with a folding knife.

The news release says that Aldrich is accused of leaving Sanetra’s body on the couch while he watched TV before going to bed. “Aldrich is accused of dragging Sanetra’s body outside and putting it in a trash can on the side of the house the next day.”

Aldrich is said to have gone back inside, packed a suitcase, and then driven to his mother’s house in the 3700 block of El Lado Drive in Glendale, California, which is about 65 miles northwest of his home in Costa Mesa, California.

Five landscapers hired by Aldrich to mow his lawn on Tuesday, Oct. 22, found Sanetra’s body “partially outside of the trashcan when they arrived.” They called the Costa Mesa Police Department right away. Police say the 911 call came in at 2:27 p.m.

The police found out that Aldrich was at his mother’s house and arrested him there by detectives from Costa Mesa.

Should Aldrich be found guilty of all of these charges, he could spend anywhere from 26 years to life in a state prison.

On Friday, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said, “Julie Sanetra did not deserve to be strangled and stuffed into a trash can like a piece of trash.” “We will do everything we can to get justice for Julie and her family. This crime is so cruel that it hurts our hearts.”

Aldrich is being held in Orange County on a $1 million bond. At this point, his arraignment is set for November 19, 2024, at the Stephen K. Tamura Justice Center in Westminster, California.

A police deputy chief from Costa Mesa told KABC in an interview that the alleged crime is something they “don’t see very often” and that Aldrich’s house is in a “very nice area” of the city.
