Amber Alert canceled for missing 9-year-old North Carolina girl whose father is wanted in the death investigation, officials said

The Amber Alert for Mekiya Werrell Strickland has been lifted, the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons reported late Wednesday morning.

Police were hunting for a 9-year-old child who went missing with her father early Wednesday morning.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued an Amber Alert for Strickland at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the notice, the kid was with her father, 50-year-old Claude Leslie Werrell, who is being sought for questioning in connection with the death inquiry.

On Wednesday afternoon, our sister station WBTW reported that Werrell is currently in custody and the youngster is safe.

Pembroke police told that investigators are investigating, but no charges have been filed at this time.
