Strong winds are forecast over Northern California; residents are urged to secure decorations

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco, elevated fire weather concerns will continue through the following week as dry conditions and gusty offshore winds grip the region.

This is because the region is experiencing drought conditions. Because of the combination of dry air and strong winds, the Bay Area continues to be on high alert because the risk of fire spread is increased.

There are only a few stratus clouds hanging in the higher elevations due to the fact that the skies have settled over the region over the course of this Sunday morning.

The forecasts for the wind continue to be accurate: conditions ranging from breezy to gusty are anticipated throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to fifty miles per hour in the hills.

Conditions that are dry are expected to prevail as winds blow from the north and northeast, and they are expected to continue until Monday morning.

In the future, weather models forecast an even more intense offshore wind event to develop from Tuesday night through Thursday.

However, there is still a lack of clarity regarding how the vegetation will react to the drying winds at this early stage in the week.

As meteorologists noted, “There are no changes to the forecast at this time,” officials are keeping a close eye out for rapid drying, which could make the risk of fires even more severe.
