CBS Chicago reported that a woman was shot and killed while walking in the funeral procession for her brother in the south Chicago suburb of Dixmoor on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, whose name was Rhomesha Turner and who lives in Calumet Park, was found shot to death inside a crashed white Jaguar SUV at 12:01 p.m., close to Seeley Avenue and 147 Street.

Turner was in the funeral procession that left St. Mark’s Church in Harvey. She was taken by Bud’s Ambulance to UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her shoes were found at the scene of the crash where the car hit a house, according to a statement from Dixmoor Police Chief Lionel Smith that CBS Chicago obtained.

Turner’s death comes soon after that of her brother Chevelle Carter, who was shot and killed on October 19 in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

Investigations into this latest act of violence were still ongoing, but late Saturday night, some people thought it might have been a form of revenge.

NBC Chicago reported that the investigation, which now includes the Illinois State Police and the Dixmoor Police Department, had not yet figured out the exact sequence of events or who fired the shots.

This event, which happened during a funeral procession and shattered the peace with its sudden violence, is still shrouded in traumatizing uncertainty for those left behind after the deaths of the two siblings.

The Dixmoor police are still looking into what happened, even though they say the shooting was isolated.
