Tim Walz loses to Trump in his own home county, as Minnesota shifts sharply to the right

Despite losing Minnesota overall, President-elect Donald Trump won in the home county of Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz, indicating a significant shift to the right in the state.

According to Axios, Trump’s performance improved in nearly every county compared to 2020, with the most significant increase in Sherburne. Minnesota has long been considered a Democratic stronghold.

Notably, Trump narrowly won Blue Earth County, which was a surprise loss for Vice President Harris because it had been home to her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, for over two decades. Biden won Blue Earth County by 4.4 points in 2020.

Democratic running mate and Vice President Kamala Harris maintained a stronghold in Minnesota’s seven-county metro area, though her margin was slightly smaller than Biden’s in 2020.

“The people of this state are having their eyes opened to the excessive partisanship and extreme policies of Democrats,” Minnesota GOP Chair David Hann told Axios.
