Why is there an SSI payment in late December?

The Social Security Administration will have to make big changes again. The January 1 payment for Supplemental Security Income can’t be made on a Federal Holiday.

Because of this, SSA will send it out on December 31, 2024. This means that about 7.5 million recipients will get the 2025 COLA raise before millions of other retirees in the United States. From December 31, 2024, these are the most that people who get SSI will be able to get.

• Largest benefit for a married couple from December 31, 2024: $1,450
