A Maryland “Chef of the Year” winner who has been on the Food Network and often cooks for famous people and athletes is still recovering from a shooting attack last week that left him and his girlfriend hospitalized. The whole attack was caught on camera.

On Saturday, ex-NFL star and chef Tobias Dorzon wrote on the Instagram pages for his two Hyattsville restaurants, Huncho House and 1123 By Chef Tobias, “This incident shook us.” He said, “I’m so thankful to be on the road to recovery.”

Five armed attackers attacked Dorzon and his girlfriend on their way home from dinner on Tuesday, November 5. Dorzon used to play running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans, and he has been on the Food Network shows “Chopped,” “Tournament of Champions,” and “Guy’s Grocery Games.”

“Brother, please don’t kill me!” “Please don’t kill me!” On the surveillance video, you can hear Dorzon say after the group starts shooting at him.

The video, which was first seen by TMZ and Fox affiliate WTTG, shows the group attacking Dorzon and his girlfriend in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place in Hyattsville, a suburb of Washington, D.C., at 10:15 p.m., according to the Hyattsville Police Department.

The people who are thought to have attacked were seen coming and going in a white SUV with a sunroof and an unknown tag.

According to HPD Chief Jarod J. Towers, the suspects were wearing jackets and hoods and had semiautomatic handguns on three of them. A fourth was allegedly holding a short rifle “of some sort.”

At a press conference last week, Towers told the crowd, “This is barbaric behavior by violent criminals.”

The area where the shooting happened is represented by Prince George’s County Councilmember Wanika Fisher. In a statement, Fisher said, “I want to see those responsible for this heinous act held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

“Chef Dorzon runs two great restaurants in Hyattsville, is a beloved member of District 2’s community, and is my very best friend,” Fisher said. “This terrible thing could not have happened to a better person.”

I am very sorry for his and the second victim’s injuries. My thoughts are with their families and friends. I hope they both get better soon. There is no place in our district or county for this kind of bloody violence.

Over the weekend, Dorzon posted updates on his personal Instagram account as well as the pages for his restaurants, telling everyone about his health and plans for the future after the shooting.

In a post on November 9, he said, “I’m still here.” “See you soon.”

Dorzon wrote on the Huncho House and 1123 By Chef Tobias pages, “My team is stronger than ever, and our doors are still open to serve you the food we love making.” If you want to help, just stop by, make a reservation, and have a meal with us. Thank you so much for your help.

The Restaurant Association of Maryland named Dorzon the 2024 Chef of the Year earlier this year. He has been a local DMV treasure for both foodies and famous people, and his Instagram page is full of pictures of famous people and athletes.

In April, he wrote on X, “Make sure you tell the people you love that you love them.” There is life after this world.

As of Sunday, Hyattsville police were still looking for the people they think shot Dorzon.
