NYC mom who jumped out of the window to escape knife-wielding son used secret knock with neighbor to let him know she was in danger

A woman in Queens was seriously hurt when police say she jumped out of her third-story window to get away from her troubled, knife-wielding son.

She was so afraid of him that she made up a secret knock to let her neighbor know if she was in danger, a resident of the building said.

Police said Saturday that the 64-year-old victim, who has not been publicly identified, had an order of protection against her son at the time she took the terrifying plunge. Neighbors said that the two had a long history of fighting.

Several neighbors said the son has mental health problems and that the parents often yelled at each other.

“They fight all the time,” said one woman whose neighbor had heard about the mom’s secret lifeline. “You can hear noise over there all the time.”

The mother called her next-door neighbor for help when she was scared. The neighbor then called 911 for her, the woman said.

A resident who did not want to be named said, “When her neighbor heard her knocking, she called 911.” “She said she saw the mom leave through the window,”

Police and neighbors said she was found face down on the ground outside her Shore Boulevard apartment building around 9 p.m. on Friday.

The mother had a brain bleed and several broken bones, including her leg, according to her daughter who spoke to The Post.

The daughter said, “My mom is stable, but she needs to have surgeries. The doctor said it’s too early to tell, but she broke her femur, her leg, her shoulder, and several bones in her face.” “She is bleeding inside her stomach.” They fixed her brain bleed.

“He is a monster,” the sister said of her brother.

Police believed her son was still inside and armed with a knife when they arrived, so began trying to establish communications with him, cops said. But by the time they got inside, he had escaped.

He was still being sought for questioning in the incident late Saturday.

The son has nearly 60 prior arrests on his record, 18 of them are sealed, police sources said.

A source said that he was last arrested in July 2024 for allegedly stealing twice at a nearby TJ Maxx, on March 24 and May 20. In one case, he threatened to hit a worker with brass knuckles, and he was charged with robbery, the sources said.

According to the sources, he stole goods worth about $1,000, such as sneakers and purses.

A man who said he was her son told The Post that he was “miles away” when his mom took the scary plunge.
