Scotland County, North Carolina A cold case in North Carolina is heating up again.

The Scotland County Sheriff s Office said Monday that the investigation into the 1984 killings of Dora Breeden and Pat Gentry had resumed.

On November 18, 1984, Breeden and Gentry were shot and set on fire inside their convenience shop, P&D Mart.

According to Capt. Randy Dover of the Scotland County Sheriff s Office, Breeden s family approached him and sought to reopen the case.

We re asking if anybody can remember anything that happened or have heard anything or would be willing to come forward to speak to us, according to him. These families need answers.

The Breeden and Gentry families, as well as Breeden s daughter, Kimberly, joined Dover.

We ve been dealing with this for 40 years, with no answers. I don t understand why. It is time for us to get answers, she stated.

Some of the questions that families are asking are: who could have done this and why?

According to investigators, Breeden and Gentry were both found with gunshot wounds to the head. The two were only found after the building was set on fire.

Kimberly said she was 16 years old when her mother died, and she described her as someone who cared about people and her community.

We knew we were loved every day, Kimberly Breeden said of her mother. She was a school teacher, educated, middle child in a very large family she was one of 10.

Rose McNeil worked at the store on the day of the murders and remembered the last chat she had with Breeden.

When they entered, I left. She told me that night that she had decided not to come in tonight because she was not feeling well, McNeil explained.

It was possibly an indication of what was to come. Only hours later, McNeil said she discovered there had been a fire, and that wasn t the worst part.

The phone rang, and my husband answered it. He stated they couldn t find Pat or Dora.

Gentry s ex-wife, Pat, also attended Monday s news conference. Although they were divorced at the time of his death, she regarded Gentry as well-liked and a good father who worked hard.

He was a good man, she explained.
