Police: To avoid witnessing the man they robbed suffer, the woman instructed her lover to kill the man they had stabbed ten hours earlier.

In Texas, a 20-year-old woman and her boyfriend of the same age are accused of stealing and killing a guy who had let them live in his condominium by repeatedly stabbing him and drugging his drink.

In connection with the killing of 53-year-old Johnny Mac Ross Jr., Haley Barber and Leo Moore were taken into custody on Thursday and charged with one count of capital murder by fear, threat, or other felony and one count of fleeing arrest or detention, according to the authorities.

Moore was also accused of stealing over $2,500 worth of property.

Officers responded to a complaint of a deceased person at a residence in the 4500 block of Chaha Road, about 17 miles east of Dallas, at around 1 a.m. on November 11, 2024, according to a news release from the Garland Police Department.

First responders reported that they discovered an adult male, later identified as Ross, who was declared dead at the site after appearing to have several stab wounds. Additionally, officers at the scene reported seeing evidence of foul play inside the house.

According to an initial inquiry, Ross was stabbed with a knife several times.

According to the statement, investigators also found that a 2001 Mercedes, one of the victim’s cars, had been stolen from the house. Garland authorities found the stolen car on Miller Road close to the LBJ Freeway at approximately 1:00 p.m. on November 11. Haley Barber and Leo Moore, the suspects, escaped when authorities tried to halt the car. They briefly pursued the car before stopping and making their getaway on foot.

Shortly afterward, both suspects were captured.

Authorities claimed to have discovered proof that Barber and Moore were acquainted with Ross and were accountable for his demise.

More information on Ross’ suspected murder was disclosed in a probable cause document that Dallas-Fort Worth Fox affiliate KDFW was able to get.

The investigation claims that Barber sold a car to one of her friends that Ross actually owned but that Barber claimed belonged to her grandfather.

That friend said the house smelled bad and went with Barber to Ross’ place to grab a spare key for the car. When the friend asked Barber about her grandfather, she allegedly showed him Ross’s body, shrouded in a bedroom in the back.

Before stabbing him, Barber allegedly admitted to the friend that she and Moore had spiked Ross’s drink. The friend then reportedly phoned the police and his mother.

According to reports, cops found a Bowie knife inside the unit, blood on the couches, and bloody shoes and towels in the closet. Ross’s body was found wrapped in a rug, sheets, and trash bags.

Police believe Ross was slain several days before his body was discovered, and a neighbor’s doorbell camera shows the two suspects coming and going from the unit several times during that time.

Barber and Moore were arrested by authorities while operating Ross’ Mercedes.

Barber allegedly acknowledged to authorities that she and Moore planned to steal automobiles and money from Ross.

Moore allegedly acknowledged that he stabbed Ross in the neck after waiting until he was dozing off on the couch. Ross was still alive when the two returned to the residence after allegedly being gone for eight to 10 hours.

According to reports, Barber then instructed Moore to kill Ross so she wouldn’t have to witness his suffering. According to reports, Moore acknowledged repeatedly stabbing Ross in the upper back.

On a $1,000,000 bond, the suspects are still being detained in the Dallas County Jail.
