A guy who allegedly stole thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry and other valuables from open houses while impersonating a real estate agent was taken into custody by Marin County authorities on Wednesday.

The suspect robbed a residence in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood during an open house last month, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. According to deputies, he claimed to be dealing with another realtor who was interested in the house while using a false identity.

While on a self-led tour of the property, the suspect took approximately $15,000 worth of jewelry.

The suspect employed the same deception at an open house at a house in the Kent Woodlands neighborhood approximately three weeks later. Deputies claim that during this burglary, the suspect took checks and jewelry valued at roughly $10,000.

After identifying a suspect, investigators followed him to a hotel in Walnut Creek. Joshua Lamont, the suspect, was taken into custody by deputies on Wednesday.

Deputies claimed they found invoices from pawn shops around the Bay Area and evidence from the second crime during a check of his hotel room.

In addition to two pending warrants for related offenses in Santa Barbara and San Diego counties, Lamont was arrested on two charges of burglary and taken to the Marin County Jail.

Deputies stated on Wednesday that they are still looking for more stolen goods.

Lamont is a 50-year-old San Diego resident, according to jail records. The bail amount for him is $400,000.

Regarding the charges, authorities did not specify when he would appear in court.
