Amazon driver allegedly kills 79-year-old grandma crossing the street on her way back from a cemetery and then goes about his day delivering packages

An Amazon delivery driver allegedly continued on his route after the deadly incident, killing a septuagenarian Georgia woman as she crossed the street after visiting a cemetery to pay her condolences to departed family members.

According to Peach State Police, Sandra Fitts, 79, passed away after being hit at an intersection close to her previous residence. London Rozier Best, 25, is currently facing one count of first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Associated coverage:

The incident happened just outside of Canton, a tiny city 41 miles north-northwest of Atlanta, on November 12 at around 6:30 p.m.

A hit-and-run on Cumming Highway close to the Jordan Lane intersection prompted a call to law enforcement.

Fitts passed away at the crime site. According to authorities, she was struck by the Rivian Delivery car and most likely died quickly.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release received by Atlanta-based radio station WSB that a deputy saw an Amazon truck going along Bishop Drive while responding to the collision and asked for help to hunt for the car.

An Amazon delivery truck with damage consistent with the woman’s deadly hit-and-run was found nearby by a member of the municipal police department.

According to the press release, the investigation showed that the pedestrian was struck by the aforementioned Amazon truck.

According to Atlanta-based CBS affiliate WANF, Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office stated that although the woman and her husband had recently sold their house, they still visited the area because Fitts would visit with memories of her departed family members and feed wild cats at the nearby cemetery’s family plot.

“It’s a really bad situation,” Baker said. He seems to be aware of what transpired, as he has been delivering packages in the vicinity ever since.

The loss is described as an echoing tragedy by the surviving family members.

She is praised in the victim’s obituary.

According to the memorial, Sandra’s life’s loves included her 60-year marriage to her honey, her love of cats, her family vacations with children and grandchildren, and maintaining a tidy home and yard. Several family members, including three grandkids, survive her.

Because of the deadly traffic accident, Best now stands the possibility of serving a sizable amount of his life behind bars.

Baker told Atlanta-based ABC affiliate WSB-TV that he probably would not have been charged, particularly with these charges, if he had stayed at the scene. Because, you know, she was crossing the highway in the dark. Therefore, halt if you ever get into an accident.

Best also faces a number of minor marijuana-related charges after a search of the Amazon delivery truck allegedly uncovered drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to a sheriff s office statement cited by People magazine.

In a statement received by Atlanta Fox affiliate WAGA, Amazon stated that the defendant would not be allowed to drive for the company until the criminal investigation was over.

We re deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts are with the victim s family and loved ones during this difficult time, Amazon told the television station. We will assist local law enforcement in their investigation.

Best is being held without bond at the moment.
