A middle school girl was detained in North Carolina after stabbing a child in the eye with a comb pick, according to authorities

After another student at J.M. Alexander Middle School used a comb pick to stab a Huntersville student in the eye, police say the student is recovering.

Although what the student took to school wasn’t unusual, what she is suspected of doing with it was, according to the police.

According to Huntersville Police Department assistant police chief Brian Vaughan, it was not (viewed as) a weapon on campus. This is not a typical occurrence at school.

Investigators say two children got into a fight in the hallway of J.M. Alexander Middle School on Tuesday.

There were no other people involved.

The boy and the girl were alone.

According to the police, the girl snatched up the comb pick and thrust it into the boy’s eye.

“It’s no different than an adult,” Vaughan said, “we would expect that if you need help, you call the police and don’t try to take matters into your own hands.”

The child was taken to the hospital.

His injuries, according to officials, are not life-threatening.

After being arrested, the girl was accused of assault with a deadly weapon.

She was sent to Concord’s Cabarrus Juvenile Detention Center.

Police say parents shouldn’t worry about their children’s safety because this is an uncommon and isolated incident.

“We have excellent working relationships with the staff at the Huntersville schools that are specifically for us, and it’s important that we maintain that,” Vaughan told the audience. “Those schools are very safe.”

The school resource officer, according to the police, looked into a number of social media posts regarding potential retaliation for the stabbing, but none of them were reliable.

In order for authorities to investigate any issues, investigators advise people to always report them.
