The family of a deceased New Rochelle woman is looking for answers after discovering her dead inside dormitories on the Iona University campus this month.
Karen Sackett’s family claims that three days after her death on November 1, her 47th birthday, a university employee found her.
She did not pass away naturally, according to evidence found at the site. Rick Diaz, Sackett’s brother-in-law, calls her passing “horrible.”
While Iona University was evicting Sackett from campus housing, Diaz says she was discovered dead in her bedroom. He asserts that she and her ex-boyfriend, who was employed at the institution, had a tense relationship when she was living there.
According to Diaz, she feared for her life. Additionally, he asserted that the ex-boyfriend had physically abused her and was involved in drug dealing outside the home. Photos showing Sackett with shredded hair and injured hands and fingers were shared to News 12 by Diaz.
Since Sackett’s ex-boyfriend has not been accused of any wrongdoing, News 12 has been unable to get in touch with him and will not identify him.
There have been no prior calls to the residence, according to New Rochelle police, who are currently looking into Sackett’s death. They think Sackett passed away naturally.
Her family disagrees, though, and they have provided News 12 with her death certificate, confirming the current cause investigation.
Not even an investigation is underway into the death. Diaz says they’ve essentially written it off.
Iona University, which offered its sorrow for Sackett’s loss, was not connected to him.
Sackett’s funeral service was held last week.
Diaz thinks the institution is hiding her death by ignoring the couple’s apparent issues.
Diaz responds, “We want someone to investigate this.” There are simply a lot of unresolved questions.
