Accused murderer who calls himself ‘King Blood’ allegedly impregnated jailer and nurse; attorneys claims he is a ‘victim’

An accused killer who is accused of impregnating a jailer and a jail nurse claims to be the top Bloods gang member in North Carolina.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Jude Darrow stated in court on Tuesday that Darrius King Blood Tyson, 32, used his influence to arrange narcotics smuggling and secure sex at the Durham County Detention Facility, according to local NBC affiliate WRAL.

Two correctional staff members were arrested as a result of the case. Their warrants state August 1 as the date of offense, but it’s unknown when they became pregnant or if they gave birth.

Associated coverage:

In September, 27-year-old detention officer Jade Shanicia Lanique Robertson was arrested for engaging in sexual conduct with a victim in a government facility, according to a press statement from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.

She was immediately fired as a jail officer for her most recent position as a sergeant on a security team. She was employed by them in October 2019.

L Erin Burnette, 41, a correctional nurse and contractor, was also arrested, according to online court documents.

Both women are free to appear in court on December 3 on $25,000 unsecured bonds.

In a news release, Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead said, “This behavior is not consistent with the training, policies, and procedures of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, nor is it representative of the values of the men and women of this agency.”

Daniel Meier, Tyson’s lawyer, maintained that his client is a victim.

WRAL reported that he informed the judge on Tuesday that he had been sexually molested by two staffers. It is a Class E felony to have sex with a detainee. A detainee cannot legally provide their consent. He becomes a victim in these circumstances.

Charges of murder, conspiracy, kidnapping, and burglary in connection with the disappearance and suspected death of 44-year-old father of six Shawn Burton will put Tyson on trial in February. Burton was last seen on March 22, 2022, and his body has not yet been found.

At least three individuals, including Tyson, are charged with restraint and injury to Burton. According to a warrant obtained by The News & Observer, Tyson forcibly held and confined Burton, moving him from one place to another without his permission.

According to the warrant, which offers no other details, Tyson gravely hurt Burton and failed to release him in a secure location.

Burton’s wife discussed the mystery with WRAL.

She told me that when he left the house at night, he was going to the club to advertise an upcoming event. I didn’t see him again after that.

Tyson, then 18 years old, spent more than ten years in prison for a 2010 murder he committed during an attempted murder in Durham. According to court documents, his conviction was overturned in 2020 as a result of the prosecution’s withholding of exonerating evidence.

Tyson was sent by the Durham County Detention Center to Central Prison in Raleigh, where he remains in detention.
