Blistering Fire Ravages Kennewick Storage Units; Cause Still Under Investigation!

A major fire caused significant damage to several storage units at the Garage Town rentals in Kennewick on Tuesday evening. The fire started around 5 p.m. at 725 N. Edison St., directly across from Kamiakin High School.

According to fire officials, the flames quickly spread, requiring a coordinated response from multiple fire departments in the area.

One individual renting a storage unit inhaled some smoke and received medical attention at the scene. Fortunately, they did not require hospitalization. Deputy Fire Chief Michael Heffner confirmed that no one was inside the units when the fire broke out.

Kennewick fire crews were the first to arrive at the scene, reaching the site in just over seven minutes. Firefighters from Benton County Fire District 1, the Pasco Fire Department, and Richland Fire and Emergency Services also joined efforts to contain the blaze within the large storage complex.

Using saws, firefighters cut through metal garage doors to access the flames and prevent further damage. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, but crews remained at the scene overnight to address potential flare-ups.

The fire left three storage units extensively damaged and unsafe to enter, while three others suffered smoke and water damage. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.

The rapid response by fire crews helped limit the fire’s spread, but the incident has left renters assessing their losses. No further injuries were reported.
