In the Carthage drug investigation, two are charged

In the Carthage region, two men are being charged in relation to a drug probe.

According to a news statement from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, investigators in Carthage’s 1000 block of Monroe Street wrapped up a drug investigation on November 19, 2024, when they discovered that prescription drugs were being illegally trafficked.

Several controlled substances, including suspected Suboxone, Xanax, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia, were seized by detectives.

Carthage resident Mitchell Goins, 40, has been taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule III controlled substance, and delivery of a Schedule III controlled substance. A hearing in court is scheduled for December 18 after Goins was given a $100,000 secured bond.

Additionally, Travis Alfred, 49, of Fayetteville, was arrested and charged with simple possession of a Schedule III prohibited substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of methamphetamine. Alfred was granted $10,000 as secured bail. His court appearance is scheduled for December 18.
