According to the Hartford Police Department, the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Puerto Rico captured the suspect who reportedly killed a mother from Massachusetts and her infant in a drive-by shooting in Hartford on Saturday morning.
Lance Macho Morales, 23, of Waterbury, is accused of two charges of murder, murder under extraordinary circumstances, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a handgun.
A car transporting three gunshot victims pulled up at Hartford Hospital on November 19 at 2:47 p.m., prompting Hartford police to respond.
Later, 20-year-old Jessiah Mercado and her 4-month-old son, Messiah Diaz, were declared deceased. A third victim sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to the police investigation, the incident happened earlier, close to 380 New Britain Avenue. Three persons were shot when Morales came up beside the vehicle and started shooting.
Morales was charged with the shooting after a probable cause was found and an arrest warrant was authorized.
Morales is awaiting extradition to the United States and is being jailed on a $3 million bail.
