As fans trashed Spartan Stadium with foam helmets, Michigan State’s giveaway was a total disaster

Michigan State defeated Purdue by seven points on Friday night, bringing them one step closer to college football bowl eligibility. The spectators in attendance were excited with the outcome, but they weren’t thrilled by the pregame freebie when they arrived.

Spartan Stadium in East Lansing was covered in discarded foam helmets.

Please be aware that I am not familiar with the usual reaction to fan giveaways before we continue. Mass repudiation might be commonplace. Maybe at similar occasions, stadium cleanup staff are constantly needed to gather up hundreds of wasted freebie goods.

I have, however, been to a good number of collegiate athletic events and have been given a lot of freebies from different universities. I’ve never seen such destruction before!

A piece of foam headgear fashioned like a Spartan warrior helmet was given to each Michigan State supporter that entered the stadium. You’re aware of it:

On a chilly November evening, I would be overjoyed to toss a foam Spartan helmet over my beanie. Free stuff is fantastic, especially after a few cold appetizers before kickoff, and it also adds another layer of warmth to the dome. If I was all juiced up, I would wear almost anything.

Fans at Michigan State must have the same mindset since they strewn foam helmets all over the hallways. The discarded freebies were then trampled underfoot by fans.

The giveaway was obviously a complete failure. Without even trying to locate a trash bin, fans tossed them to the ground. The floor was covered in an absurd amount of foam helmets.

Spartans supporters were ecstatic with the result, despite their obvious lack of interest in the giveaway. Next weekend, Michigan State will host Rutgers in an attempt to make it to the postseason. The foam helmets might be better off staying in the box!
