San Jose police stated Tuesday that they had just arrested a suspect in retail theft who was reportedly involved in dozens of different crimes in San Jose since August of this year.

San Jose police said in a press release that since August 2024, the department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Detail has been looking into the many retail theft cases that have been reported all around the city. Jesus Delgadillo, a 46-year-old resident of San Jose, was the culprit in the store thefts, according to investigators. Delgadillo was suspected by police of stealing more than $18,000 worth of Lego kits and other items from multiple Target stores in San Jose.

Police were able to secure an arrest warrant for Delgadillo by collaborating with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. He was found and taken into custody on November 14. When Degadillo was arrested, police discovered Target-stolen goods inside his car. He was arrested on several counts of grand theft and attempted grand theft at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

In the statement, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan stated, “Four retail thefts is too many over 40 is ludicrous.” “I want to thank our Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft Detail for leaning in and using the resources we have available to arrest those harming our community.”
