Katt Williams has purchased property for the construction of a film studio.

The comedian disclosed that he has purchased a former military installation in Alabama in an interview with GQ. Amy Sisoyev, Williams’ spokesperson, attested to it.

In an email to AL.com, Sisoyev said, “I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama, but I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet.”

Williams declared that he aspires to emulate other famous people, such as Tyler Perry.

Perry, a self-made entrepreneur, has created the biggest Black-owned studio in the world, according to AFROTECH. Perry, who valued the studio at $280 million in 2023, self-funded it.

Williams told GQ, “It’s just not fair to put so much pressure on Tyler Perry,” in reference to his desire to be next in line. There’s only so much he can do.

When the movie studio will start construction is unknown at the time of writing.

Williams is among an increasing number of Black leaders who want to upend Hollywood and take greater authority over the entertainment sector. Among them is Anthony Mackie, a Marvel actor who purchased 20 acres of land in 2022 to construct a studio in his native New Orleans, Louisiana. The venture’s progress is yet unknown, though.
