TikTok influencer jailed for shoplifting after allegedly displaying stolen Target haul to 350k followers

After allegedly showing off a collection of pilfered Target merchandise to her 350,000 followers in a video, a TikTok influencer was arrested for theft.

In Florida, 22-year-old Marlena Velez, who goes by the TikTok handle @marlenavelezz, was accused of one count of petty theft.

Velez stole $500.32 worth of apparel and household items from a Cape Coral Target store on October 30, according to Cape Coral Police.

Officials said the suspect scanned fake barcodes with lower prices at the self-checkout counter after allegedly picking up 16 items from the store.

Authorities claim that she was spotted wearing the same outfit in the same Target shop in a video she released later that day titled “Day in the Life of a Mom.”

She allegedly picks up the same stolen goods and puts them in her car in the video.

After police made public a picture of the alleged thief wearing a tan suit and spectacles that was purportedly taken on security footage inside the store, she was arrested.

Police were subsequently led to the influencer by an anonymous informant who gave them her full name, birthdate, and social media accounts.

Investigators were able to connect Velez’s TikTok video to Target surveillance footage, police said.

According to booking records, Velez was arrested Thursday night and released on a $150 cash bond from the Lee County Jail.

On December 10, the 22-year-old is anticipated to make another court appearance.
