Federal authorities claim that after learning of a $40,000 settlement she was keeping for their brother, the boyfriend of a Missouri woman abducted and killed her.
When questioned last week about the November 20 murder of her sister Michelle Hampton, Samantha Hampton told local NBC affiliate KSDK that she had no knowledge who killed her. She didn’t think it was a coincidence, though.
Samantha told the station, “No, I don’t.” It wasn’t random, in my opinion.
Police say Samantha Hampton tipped them off by telling them she suspected her own boyfriend, Anjuan Mosby, of being responsible for the kidnapping of Michelle Hampton, a Clayton, Missouri resident who had $40,000 in her bank account from an undisclosed court settlement she was holding on behalf of their brother.
Samantha Hampton claims that the 43-year-old went missing that same day after learning of the settlement prior to Michelle Hampton’s disappearance.
Court filings state that during her police interview, the surviving twin stated that she was afraid to go home because she thought Mosby was responsible for Michelle’s abduction. She says she saw her sister taken from her Clayton house by two masked guys.
Prosecutors say Samantha Hampton was unaware that Mosby had abducted Michelle Hampton and killed her after trying to take money out of her bank account.
Surveillance footage purports to show the two driving about with Emmanuel Suarez, 36, another suspect who is suspected of taking part in the kidnapping and going with them to PNC Banks to withdraw money.
Prosecutors claim that a teller at one PNC Bank refused to accept a $10,000 transaction and instead gave them $2,000.
The three allegedly strike out again after a staffer asks them to return inside and finish the transaction, according to surveillance footage from another PNC.
Video showed Michelle Hampton being shot dead after being released from the yellow Ram vehicle they were all riding in and into an alley.
Mosby later admitted to police that he tried to take money out of other ATMs between Clayton and St. Louis before letting Hampton go. He allegedly allowed her to escape before shooting her, according to court filings.
Using surveillance footage that purportedly showed Suarez and his Ram vehicle both before and after the kidnapping, police were able to locate him.
According to court filings, DNA tests also connected him to Mosby after detectives found garments they had left behind.
Mosby and Suarez are accused of first-degree murder, robbery, and kidnapping by the authorities. Mosby is also charged by the federal government with kidnapping that caused death. He entered a not guilty plea.
