On Sunday, a statewide ban on a drug called “gas station heroin” will go into force.
North Carolina is going to ban tianeptine on December 1.
Early in July, Governor Roy Cooper signed the restriction into law.
The General Assembly of North Carolina approved a law in June that made it illegal to possess or sell tianeptine.
WFMY News 2’s In May, Chad Silber visited with a woman from Montgomery County whose son is battling a heroin addiction. She tried to talk her kid out of it, she said Silber.
“Every parent loves their child and wants the best for them, but it breaks your heart to carry that child inside of you,” the woman said.
According to the woman, the medication causes terrible withdrawal symptoms, including excruciating bone and muscular aches.
In June, after the measure was passed, Silber also had a conversation with Representative Stephen Ross. Ross was one of the primary proponents of the drug prohibition law.
Ross told the audience, “I don’t think I slept very much (last night) because I just couldn’t let go because I didn’t want to let these people down who have contacted us and emailed us so desperately and told us the stories of what this has done to their families or loved ones.”
