It can be quite liberating to drive. But it can be quite dangerous. A recent story about a young woman who escaped a traffic stop and led police on a high-speed chase serves as a reminder of this fact. Sadly, her behavior led to multiple auto accidents.

Not only did she evade a traffic stop, but the driver reached extreme speeds

Police in North Carolina tried to conduct a traffic stop on a driver, according to CBS17 News. She was speeding when the stop attempt was made. She was later identified, of course, as 18-year-old Evelyn Diaz-Lopez. She refused to stop despite their best efforts, leading the police officers on a dangerous pursuit.

When the officer tried to stop her, she reportedly reached speeds of 99 mph and then 150 mph. Unfortunately, when she caused two car accidents while evading the police, things became worse. Four automobiles were damaged in these collisions, and the estimated total cost was over $1,000. She left the scene of both car wrecks, so the story doesn’t end here.

The driver had to escape on foot following the second of the two car crashes. But police managed to apprehend her and place her in handcuffs. did not have a driver’s license at the time, in addition to providing a false identification. Following the attempted traffic stop, she was charged by police with:

  • Fleeing/eluding arrest with motor vehicle
  • Reckless driving with wanton disregard
  • Failure to heed police lights/sirens
  • Two counts of hit-and-run with property damage
  • Resisting public officer
  • Two counts of Speeding
  • Fictitious information to an officer
  • Failure to carry a valid driver s license
