According to authorities, the arrest of a 16-year-old child in California was connected to the 2023 shooting death of a 15-year-old youngster in Norfolk.

As previously reported by WAVY, police were summoned to the 1700 block of Vernon Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. on October 19, 2023, to check on a person who had been shot. A 15-year-old child with a potentially fatal gunshot wound was discovered by the police when they arrived.

After being transported to a neighboring hospital, the 15-year-old was pronounced deceased.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with second-degree murder and gun-related offenses within a year.

On October 28, the teenager was apprehended by law enforcement in California, and on November 22, he was returned to Virginia.

He is being held at the Norfolk Detention Center. Detectives have not provided any additional information or said what transpired.
