On Wednesday night in Peters Township, Washington County, a 79-year-old lady was hit by a car while crossing Route 19, resulting in her death.

Police in Peters Township announced Thursday morning that they would not reveal the woman’s identity until her family had been appropriately informed.

The collision happened in the 2800 block of Route 19 at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to a Washington County 911 dispatcher.

Police say the woman was crossing the street close to the entrance to the Pizzaz and Simmons Farm market parking lot when she was hit by a northbound car.

Police say the woman’s 43-year-old daughter, who was walking with her, was unharmed.

The 73-year-old man who was driving the car stayed on the scene.

According to police, just before Peters medics arrived to begin life-saving measures, drivers in another car pulled over to provide assistance.

Before being sent to St. Clair Hospital in Mount Lebanon, Allegheny County, where she passed away from her wounds, the woman was also treated by local firemen, according to authorities.

Police claim that the motorist was not intoxicated.

According to authorities, the preliminary inquiry seems to indicate that this is a terrible accident and that no culpability has been assigned as of yet.
