Charges of rape and kidnapping have been brought against a probationary Hamlet man for an alleged incident on December 9.
A woman was raped by 32-year-old Casey James Braddock without her consent, according to an arrest warrant. The warrant further claims that the victim suffered physical and facial assault, and that she was maimed by a bite to her ear.
Braddock was arrested the same day by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and charged with first-degree kidnapping, assault causing serious injury, and first-degree forcible rape. On December 19, he is scheduled to appear in court while being detained at Richmond County Jail.
Online court records show that Braddock has had unresolved traffic violations since August.
Braddock was found guilty of assaulting a female on November 18 and given a 12-month suspended sentence, according to documents filed with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction and the North Carolina Court System. Charges of assault with a firearm and domestic violence were also dropped. An evaluation for substance abuse was necessary for Braddock.
The victim in this case seems to be the same as the one who was convicted in November.
Until proven guilty in court, all criminal defendants are presumed innocent.
