Following a police pursuit in Unicoi County on Wednesday morning, a man from North Carolina who was wanted for kidnapping and armed robbery was taken into custody.

Winston-Salem’s sheriff called officers just before six in the morning to report an armed robbery and kidnapping in their jurisdiction, according to Frank Rogers, Chief Deputy of the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department (UCSD).

Authorities in North Carolina were able to track the guy down to Unicoi County, where he reportedly took a hostage, according to Rogers.

Just after 6 a.m., UCSD deputies and Erwin police officers discovered the suspect in the victim’s car at the Black Diamond Gas Station in Unicoi.

Rogers said a short pursuit ended after a pit maneuver on I-26 East close to exit 32 in Unicoi County.

Rogers informed the audience, “We’ve discovered that positive things happen when everyone works together.” From our officers, the Erwin Police Department, and the Winston-Salem Sheriff’s Office. The only thing that allowed us to do this properly was everyone’s cooperation. It’s a group endeavor. These kids have done a fantastic job. We managed to get the victim back to her family, but we damaged a few automobiles. That is the most important factor.

The defendant will be charged with aggravated kidnapping, escape, and evasion from Unicoi County, according to Rogers.

As you can see here, our police are taught to perform these dangerous pit maneuvers, Rogers said. We prepare for the inevitable even when we may not want to do it. Training is beneficial on days like today, and our officers performed a fantastic pit maneuver. Everyone is alive, you know.
