A man, 66, was killed after being struck on Crain Highway

A motorist struck a 66-year-old man on Crain Highway last week, resulting in his death.

At around 8:18 p.m. on Friday, December 6, Charles sheriff’s officers were on their way to a restaurant located in the 6500 block of Crain Highway to inquire about the well-being of a person.

On the way, an officer saw a person on the shoulder of the northbound left lane of Crain Highway who had been struck by a car.

In the collision, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.

Detectives from the La Plata Police Department say that Robert Martin Pope, 66, of Glen Burnie, was killed in the collision.

The La Plata Police Department announced that the preliminary investigation revealed that witnesses saw the individual crawling on the shoulder of Crain Highway.

Witnesses report that a 2021 Chrysler 300 traveling north in the left lane struck the pedestrian. The notification stated that the Chrysler’s operator was still present at the scene.
