After beating his ex-girlfriend to death in 2021, a guy from San Leon was found guilty of murder and given a 40-year prison term.

William Glenn Herron, 57, was found guilty by a jury on October 11 of Mary Elizabeth Hyman’s murder.

The following morning, Herron reported to 911 that he thought Hyman had passed away.

Several blunt force injuries to Hyman’s head and face, blood, ripped hair, and other evidence of a violent struggle were discovered by deputies on the floor of her trailer.

Herron was charged with murder in August 2021, and on October 7, 2024, his trial will begin.

Prosecutors used surveillance footage and text exchanges to show Herron stalking Hyman in the days leading up to her death during the trial.

Hyman’s face was covered in bruises and blood in graphic images taken at the crime scene. According to testimony from Galveston County Medical Examiner Dr. Erin Barnhart, Hyman’s death was caused by blunt force trauma.

According to Herron’s defense, Hyman was killed by an unnamed person or by unintentional falls.

After a little more than an hour of deliberation, the jury dismissed these allegations and delivered a guilty verdict.

Chief prosecutor Whitney Rasberry told jurors during her closing statements that he killed her by beating her and threw her away like a piece of trash.

Herron was given a 40-year prison term, notwithstanding Rasberry’s plea for a life sentence during the sentencing hearing.
