Ten people—nine men and one woman—were injured over a 38-hour period in what police say were random attacks.

On November 8, Seattle police arrested a man in connection with a series of stabbings in the Chinatown-International District, which injured five people Friday afternoon.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified, is also being investigated in connection with at least four other similar stabbings in the same downtown area that began early on November 7, according to a statement from the Seattle Police Department.

Ten people—nine men and one woman—were injured over a 38-hour period in what police described as random attacks.

“It’s certainly plausible that the suspect involved in today’s stabbing is the same suspect involved with the previous five incidents,” Seattle Police Deputy Chief Eric Barden said at the scene on Nov. 8.

He stated that the investigation was ongoing. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Barden described the incidents as “a horrific tragedy,” and said they are being investigated as a “mass casualty event.”

“The injuries to those victims ranged from a minor cut to severe stab wounds,” Barden said, adding that he believes “everybody is alive at this time.”

The suspect was apprehended without incident in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District after police responded to a call involving five victims at around 2 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Four of the victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) for treatment of serious stab wounds, while one was treated on the scene and released, according to the SPD.

Barden also stated that witnesses visually identified the suspect following his arrest.

In addition, responding officers discovered a weapon near the arrested person, as well as a knife in one of the victims’ bodies, according to police.

An HMC spokesperson confirmed that four victims were in the hospital and that all were in critical condition.

According to the spokesperson, two of them remained in critical condition on Friday evening, one in serious condition, and the other in satisfactory condition.

More Details of Stabbing Spree

According to police, the investigation began when a 52-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds in downtown Seattle at 1:35 a.m. on November 7. She was critically ill when she was taken to HMC.

Later that day, at 12:19 p.m., a 32-year-old man was discovered with multiple stab wounds. He was also taken to HMC in serious condition.

The victim described the suspect as a black male wearing a checkered hoodie, according to police. Officers attempted a K9 search, but it was canceled due to high foot traffic and insufficient starting points.

Later that evening, around 8 p.m., a 37-year-old man was stabbed several times in the back, according to police. He was also taken to HMC in serious condition.

About half an hour later, at 8:39 p.m., police responded to another assault call and discovered a 60-year-old victim in his vehicle with a laceration on his hand. Police discovered that the victim was involved in a cellphone robbery.

The suspect “forcibly opened the driver’s side door and attempted to stab him in the chest,” according to police. The victim was able to block the attack but received a cut to his hand.

“The suspect fled eastbound on foot.” “His description was similar to previous reported stabbings,” police said.

Authorities launched a manhunt with a helicopter and K9 units, but the suspect was not apprehended.

Then, at around 1 a.m. on November 8, police responded to an assault call and discovered a 53-year-old man “bleeding heavily from a neck injury.” The victim was taken to HMC in serious condition.

Officers followed a blood trail to a nearby doorway, which served as a starting point for K9 dogs to track down a suspect. However, officers were unable to apprehend the suspect.

After five more people were stabbed, police apprehended the suspect on Friday afternoon.

According to the SPD, detectives from the Homicide and Assault Unit are currently working to identify the suspect, who is described only as a 30- to 40-year-old male.
