A guy was detained on charges of murder after repeatedly running over someone in a Bay Area mall parking lot, according to authorities.

According to Fairfield police files, the department got a call at 11:50 a.m. Thursday reporting a hit-and-run in the 1500 block of Gateway Blvd.

When officers arrived at the Solano Town Center’s north parking lot, they located a dead male who had been ran over “multiple times” while walking across it, according to authorities.

The 911 caller followed the white Dodge truck and assisted police in locating the driver about 3 miles away in the 800 block of East Tabor Ave.

The suspect, Vakautakava Tangitau, 25, was “taken into custody without incident,” Fairfield police reported. Tangitau, who lives in Fairfield, “is known to officers due to previous mental health calls,” according to a police statement.

It is unclear why Tangitau reportedly ran over the man, or whether they knew each other. The name of the deceased guy will not be disclosed until his next of kin is notified.

Tangitau is being held at the Solano County Justice Center Detention Facility on a murder accusation; he is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
