A law enforcement expert made the startling suggestion that UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson might have ordered his own murder for insurance purposes during a CNN appearance on Friday.

Before launching into his outlandish notion, Neill Franklin, a 34-year law enforcement veteran and former executive director of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, responded that there’s a good probability police knew the assassin’s identify when asked by CNN host Dana Bash.

However, I would also like to bring up motive, which is another topic I am aware these criminal investigators are examining. For a variety of reasons, people have plotted their own deaths. “We know this,” he clarified.

Franklin acknowledged that it might have been for insurance purposes.

Of course. Maybe they are worried about a future probe for insurance grounds. They could wish to portray their family in a favorable light. Franklin did add, though, that there have been cases where people have planned their own deaths.

The assassin knew too much about Thompson’s movements that day, he reasoned.

He was waiting. I mean, who would know exactly which sidewalk he was going to be on? Franklin asked.

Three days ago on Tuesday, Thompson was shot and died outside a Hilton hotel in Manhattan. Law enforcement reports that the hunt for his killer is proceeding steadily.
