The Mason County Sheriff’s Office reports that on November 16, William Darnell, 38, and his brother Joshua Darnell, 41, both of Texas, were taken into custody on a number of charges.
On November 18, the sheriff’s office announced that Joshua was facing more charges.
An new Facebook post claims that Joshua provided police with his other brother’s ID, who was not at the scene of the collision.
Intoxication in a public place and evading the scene of an accident that claimed two lives were the initial charges against the 41-year-old. According to the sheriff’s office, he is currently being charged with identity theft and giving an officer false identifying information.

On November 16, a tragic multi-vehicle accident happened on AA Highway in Maysville, Kentucky, close to the intersection with Slack Pike Road.
Joshua Mark Wells, 39, and Latasha Kay Wells, 44, of Germantown, were the Northern Kentucky couple who died in the collision, according to the sheriff’s office.
A earlier FOX19 NOW item claims that William rear-ended the Wells family’s car while operating a Nissan Xterra.
A 31-year-old lady who was critically injured was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after the couple’s car collided with an oncoming vehicle.
William and his brother had been drinking the night before the collision, according to investigators, who also found an open container in their car that smelled like alcohol.
Joshua was eventually found hiding in a ditch a considerable distance away from the location of the collision, according to the citation. He claimed to have been the car’s passenger when he was caught.
Among the many accusations against his brother, William, are the following:
- Vehicular homicide
- Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol
- Assault in the first degree
- Wanton endangerment in the first degree
- Possession of marijuana
- Failure to produce an insurance card
- Driving without a valid driver s license
- Possession of an open container in a motor vehicle
- No registration receipt or plates
Both males are incarcerated at the Mason County Detention Center at the moment.
Joshua’s bond was changed to $75,000 in cash, while William’s was set at $2.5 million.
