Several police pursuits of the suspected gunmen began early Sunday morning after two women were shot and hurt while traveling in north suburban Lake County.
According to authorities, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to the intersection of Green Bay Road and Bonnie Brook Lane in Beach Park at around two in the morning in response to a complaint of a shooting and vehicle collision.
Deputies found two women who had been shot inside a badly damaged automobile in a ditch.
Two women were shot, one in the leg and one in the eye. A tourniquet was applied to the woman’s leg by a deputy. Both women are expected to live after being transported to a nearby hospital.
The victims were driving home on Green Bay Road after leaving a club in North Chicago when a gray Dodge came up next to them, investigators found out.
The victims’ vehicle was shot at by the Dodge’s occupants. At the location, several shell casings were found.
Search for gunmen
Deputies shared details about the suspected car in a regional broadcast. A Waukegan police officer saw a gray Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat that fit the suspect car description about half an hour later.
The motorist drove off and evaded arrest as officers tried to halt the vehicle on Sunset Avenue.
The suspect car was found by a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy on Route 41 southbound close to Route 173 at 2:41 a.m. The motorist sped off as the deputy tried to stop the vehicle once more.
The vehicle did a U-turn on Sterns School Road and proceeded north on Route 41 as the deputy chased after it. Once again, the suspect vehicle drove off from the police.
On Route 173, the motorist eluded another sheriff’s deputy a short while later.
However, the suspect vehicle collided with a tire deflation device employed by a Zion police officer. In spite of this, the suspect vehicle eluded authorities once more before crashing into a densely forested region close to Route 173 and Joana Avenue in Zion.
Two local residents, a man and a boy, were taken into custody when police found the suspicious car. A pistol was found in a backyard close to where one of the suspects was arrested, and a rifle and pistol were found in the Dodge.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, police suspect the Dodge was stolen from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
The event is presently being looked into by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. As of Sunday morning, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office had not received any charges from the police.
