As the founder and CEO of his nonprofit organization, National Action Network, Rev. Al Sharpton has rewarded himself with large bonuses in addition to his duties as an MSNBC host.
A check of NAN’s tax documents indicates that Sharpton started disclosing bonus and incentive compensation in 2014 and kept doing so every two to three years after that.
Sharpton gave himself a $64,400 bonus in 2014. He gave himself an astounding $437,555 in 2016, which was more than the $250,000 base pay he reported that year.
He reported receiving a bonus of $159,596 in 2018 on top of his $324,000 base pay. Interestingly, he included $563,352 more under “other reportable compensation.”
Sharpton gave himself a substantial bonus of $278,503 in 2021, which was over 80% of his base pay of $348,174.
Over the course of seven years, Sharpton’s organization gave him bonuses totaling $940,054.
A request for response from Fox News Digital was not immediately answered by NAN.
Sharpton and NAN have come under fire in recent weeks after it was revealed that, just weeks before the October 20 election, Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign paid NAN $500,000 for a friendly interview with the Democratic nominee.
According to FEC documents, the Harris campaign donated $250,000 to Sharpton’s nonprofit group twice in September and October after Harris defeated President-elect Donald Trump.
But neither before nor after the conversation did the MSNBC weekend host disclose the possible conflict of interest to the audience. The Washington Free Beacon claims that he kept the donations a secret from his network executives.
