Albemarle Police Charge Juvenile After Report of Shots Fired

Officers from Albemarle Police responded to a report of gunfire in the northeast corner of the Walmart parking lot, close to the boundary of Tractor Supply, about 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.

When police arrived, they found three teenagers in the parking lot who said that someone had fired a gun at them. A group of teenagers exchanged comments before one group of three moved away to the tree-lined slope between Tractor Supply and the Walmart parking lot, according to the officers.

A bullet struck the front of a car a few minutes later, and two gunshots were heard. According to a close witness, a young man in a dark hoodie was seen standing in the tree line, holding what appeared to be a weapon. According to the witness, the man then left with his hands in his hoodie pocket.

Patrol officers were able to take pictures of the suspects and watch video footage. To help with identification, law enforcement received these photos.

Albemarle Police Department Patrol Officers, Albemarle Police Department School Resource Officers, and Stanly County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers helped identify a juvenile suspect on Monday. The suspect was subsequently charged with minor possession of a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. During the investigation, two semi-automatic firearms were also seized.

Police said that more arrests might be made and that the case is still under investigation.
