According to our news partner WBNS Cincinnati, an Ohio prison guard was killed on Christmas morning following an incident at the Ross Correctional Institution.

Andrew Lansing was the officer that was killed, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The ODRC reports that the prisoner who was charged with the attack has been sent to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.

The ODRC asked people to remember Lansing’s family and loved ones in a statement.

It is devastating for his family, the whole Ross Correctional Institution family, and our organization as a whole that Officer Lansing, a longtime and well-respected employee, passed away on Christmas Day.

Coworkers admired Officer Lansing, who was known for being a great advocate for other RCI staff members. According to an agency statement, he was a friendly, gregarious officer who always acted professionally and treated everyone with respect.

While the Ohio State Highway Patrol looks into the incident, the organization is working under limited movement, according to the ODRC.
