Authorities Warn: Alleged Violin Scam Resurfaces in Hudson Valley – Stay Safe!

There’s been a recent reappearance of a scam in the Hudson Valley that authorities are warning the public about. People are being approached by someone playing a violin in parking lots, asking for cash.

This situation is eerily similar to incidents from a few years ago when a person was seen outside supermarkets and shopping centers performing a violin act, but the act was later linked to a group of scammers.

Reports have surfaced again that the same violin players are back, this time involving a woman and a child.

One of these individuals has been spotted outside the Shop Rite supermarket on Route 9 in Fishkill and also at the Shoppes at South Hills in Poughkeepsie.

The setup is nearly identical to what was reported before—a sign claiming, “Please, I need help,” with a message explaining that the individual and their children need money to pay bills.

When observing the violinist for a short time, people have noticed that the movements of the player don’t match the music coming from the speaker.

The instrument is not being played live; instead, it appears that the person is miming along with a pre-recorded track.

In fact, the speaker being used is the same as one seen during similar instances in 2021.

This scam has been popping up across the United States for years, with reports from multiple states describing the exact same operation.

Instead, authorities recommend that those looking to help should consider donating to established charities or organizations that support people in need.

By doing this, you can be sure your money will go to a legitimate cause and be used to help those who truly need assistance.
