Even though Baldur’s Gate 3 was the most talked about game of the year in 2023, there were a few other games that were good enough to compete with it. The most important of these was the crazy-good horror game Alan Wake 2, which was made by Remedy Entertainment and is a true masterpiece in its genre.

Since Alan Wake 2 came out, there’s been a lot to enjoy. But this week is going to be very busy for plans. Plus, Remedy has announced a “Anniversary Update” that includes some long-awaited features. This comes on top of the second DLC, “The Lake House.” Alan Wake 2 is about to get even better a year after it came out.

For all players, the Anniversary Update is completely free. It doesn’t add any new story content, but it does give you a lot of new ways to play the game. A new menu called “Gameplay Assist” is added, which has some quality-of-life options as well as some new accessibility options.

If that’s what you want, some of these will help you get through the game much faster. These updates make players immune to damage, immortal, and able to kill enemies instantly. They also add unlimited ammunition and flashlight batteries.

These options can help people who are playing the game a second time to find collectibles or just to finish the story. They can also help people who are playing the game for the first time and might find the survival horror parts too scary. You made some smart changes that make the game even better for more people. With the update, you’ll be able to do the following:

  • Quick Turn
  • Auto complete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • Instantly slain enemies in one shot
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

But PlayStation users are in for a treat: they can now use Gyro Controls to play Alan Wake 2. That sounds like a bad dream to me, but hey, don’t feel bad if you want to use motion controls in your scary game.

At the same time, the DualSense controller will now have haptic feedback for more than just guns. It will also have haptic feedback for healing items and throwables.

This is a big week for Alan Wake 2: on October 22, the Anniversary Update comes out along with the long-awaited physical edition and The Lake House DLC. People who are interested in Remedy’s Connected Universe should really enjoy this expansion.

It is already clear that The Lake House is preparing for the follow up to 2019’s Control. Jesse Fade, the main character of Control, made a short appearance in the Night Springs expansion.

Her brother Dylan also makes an appearance in The Lake House. In Control, Dylan was the main person who let the supernatural being called the Hiss in. The Hiss then accidentally set off the events of Alan Wake 2.

When you play The Lake House, you take on the role of Kiran Estevez, an FBI agent you met in the main game. The Lake House, which is on Cauldron Lake, seems to be an FBC research center where terrible things have happened.

We see some of the strange red lighting that’s usually associated with The Hiss in Control, as well as a new, scary monster that comes out of a painting on the wall.

So, this expansion might be the link between Alan Wake 2 and Control 2, similar to how the AWE expansion for the first Control led straight into Alan Wake 2. If you know Remedy, you know there will be a lot of little Easter eggs and connections.

It’s great to see that Alan Wake 2 is still getting such strong new updates and additions a year after it came out. It’s one of the most interesting and impactful games Remedy has ever made. It’s now even more clear that this is one of the best horror games ever.
