Bettendorf man was arrested for stealing money, lottery tickets, and products from the store while working

Police in Davenport say a man from Bettendorf stole money, goods, and lottery tickets while working at a gas station. He is being held in the Scott County Jail.

Shane Coverdill, 48, was arrested on October 22 on one charge of second-degree theft, which is a class D crime, and five counts of forgery or theft of lottery tickets, which are also class D felonies.

The complaint says that employees at a Shell station on Locust Street stole things, so cops were called. Police looked into it and found that Coverdill would steal from a floor vault that held U.S. cash during his shifts.

He was also seen taking things like energy drinks, soda, and cigarettes while he was at work. He got different scratch-off lottery tickets and played them while he worked. The store’s own security cameras caught these things happening.

Coverdill stole more than $3,500 in U.S. cash or goods, as well as at least 30 lottery tickets, while she was working at the store, according to the report.

During a conversation with Miranda, he said that he did take the money, goods, and tickets. He has been given a $30,000 bail and is being held until his first court date.
