Big price for a $100 rare banknote, sold for $4,000 at an auction

The $100 Confederate States of America Military Endorsement Banknote from 1861 may not have been seen by certain Americans. If you are unfamiliar with numismatics and coin collections, have a look at this outstanding example from American history.

This $100 bill has been graded by PCGS as Choice Fine-15 Details. It goes without saying that the Montgomery banknote is exceptional. This one is approximately 163 years old, having been created on May 15, 1861.

Why are these $100 bills historically relevant?

In reality, because they were issued under the Confederacy, they have historical significance. In addition to its well-documented significance in American history, it features a stunning “America” design.

“America” (Minerva or Columbia) is towering, with a train and people in the backdrop. The large, tastefully crafted numerals are likewise rather striking. About 1,600 $100 Montgomery notes were printed, according to Stack’s Bowers.

There are a little over 150 of these banknotes in existence. PMG, for instance, has evaluated roughly 45 of them. Uncirculated and well-preserved bills will undoubtedly be the priciest examples.

According to Professional Coin Grading Services, it sold for $4,440 at the most recent auction. Furthermore, the National Bank Note Company in New York printed and manufactured this miracle.

Look closely at the beautifully displayed pennant signatures at the bottom of the $100 note. The paper’s brightness is another aspect of this note that should be noted.

This feature aids in drawing attention to the design’s fine features. Remember that Montgomery was the location of the conflict. The fact that Richmond eventually served as the Confederate States of America’s capital increases the bill’s value. It was considered by many collectors to be the most attractive banknote of its kind.
