Big rig overturns in Oakland on Highway 80 connector ramp to Highway 880

The California Highway Patrol reports that early Tuesday morning near Oakland, a large rig overturned and closed a connector ramp of westbound Interstate Highway 80.

There were reports of casualties after the tractor-trailer jackknifed on the connection ramp leading to southbound I-880. Just before 5 a.m., the CHP stated that the connecting ramp was closed.

Meanwhile, eastbound I-580 through Oakland was open to big rigs.

The collision had been cleared by 7:31 a.m., and traffic was using the connecting ramp. Big rigs are no longer allowed on eastbound I-880 through Oakland, according to the CHP.

The cause of the collision and the severity of the injuries were not immediately known.
