The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press statement on Thanksgiving that a police pursuit concluded with the pursuing vehicle colliding with a tree, killing a youngster and injuring three other juveniles early Thursday morning.

After allegedly concluding that the white Hyundai Elantra was stolen from San Jose, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputies made an effort to stop the driver at the intersection of South De Anza Boulevard and Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Elantra smashed into a tree close to Saratoga Los Gatos Road and Via Colina in Saratoga at around three in the morning after the driver, who was allegedly wearing a face mask and hooded sweater, failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit.

Sheriff’s deputies allegedly discovered an unloaded pistol magazine nearby and caught the male driver who had fled the scene.

At the scene, a male passenger was pronounced dead.

The driver was hospitalized along with two other passengers, both of whom were female.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, two were receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, while one was in stable condition.

Following treatment for his injuries, the driver will be taken into custody and is anticipated to be placed into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on charges of vehicular manslaughter, felony evasion, possession of a stolen car, and other offenses.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will notify the victim’s family before releasing the victim’s name.

The crash is being investigated by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialist Team, or STARS Team. On Thanksgiving, Saratoga’s southbound Saratoga Los Gatos Road at Via Colina and northbound Saratoga Los Gatos Road at El Camino Grande were closed.
